I have added a section called (loosely) "Every Day Living" to Knapdale People. The major item here is a pdf of an inventory of houses done by the Poltalloch Estates, in 1798 and 1803. To help figure out what they are talking about, I have included some Auchindrain Museum photos of housing back in the day.
Also, note that I have figured out how to put links to other websites onto this blog! I have done the same at Knapdale People, too.

Hi Heather. What a great site. I have found more clues to research further. Made me feel that I had finally "connected" with those I had never even heard of a couple of years ago.
Would you know how to get information from a ship named "Rebecca" built by a group of men including John McNider from Quebec city around 1815<>. It was used to bring Scots from Argyll to "settle" in Quebec. My line came from North Knapdale. Unfortunately "theshipslist" names a few people with XX settlers. I would like to find any account of who these settlers would be; any suggestions? Thanks for all of your hard work.

Not sure if you check this blog any more.... it seems to be some time since the last entry was posted.
I have family connections we can very firmly trace back to North Ardbeg in North Knapdale emigrating to Elgin County, Ontario, Canada circa 1820; and thanks to your web-site, I now know these lands in Scotland are associated with the McNeils of Taynish.
One of the things I'm trying to figure out (amongst others) is what clan we 'belong' to. We were Pat(t)ersons. My grandmother always said we belonged to Clan McLean but we had no basis to know why she said that.... it was just what she had been 'told'. I now see from your web-site that there is a distinct possibilty that McNeils of Taynish were actually McLeans; but then again... maybe not. Any new insights you can offer on this one??

I'm sitting here in the FHL in Salt Lake City, working on my John and Sarah McIntyre family of Knapdale...both North and South...having a hard time deciphering names I found in the baptism record like "Dallot??"
This family ended up in Mosa, Middlesex, Ontario in 1861 and I'm got to find them between 1841 and 1861....any way of finding them on a ship, or if they went to Nova Scotia first and then into Ontario?
I don't know where to start here. Should I just get on the Argyll mailing list...or can I get some help here.
